How To Enjoy School

bannerfans_17358198

Hi friends! Pretty much anybody in my immediate family knows that I have loved learning from a very young age. I have always enjoyed school. I’m that kid who looks forward to summer break ending, so I can go back to school. I know, I know. Major #geekstatus right?! So, today I’m going to give you guys some tips that help  me whenever I get in a “I don’t want to study for 10000 years rut.”

Get Organized

This is probably my #1 tip. I used to be so unorganized. I’d have my notes in 5 different folders and flash cards all over the place. Getting organized is pretty easy. Get some folders and assign one folder to each class. Staple your notes (in chronological order) together that go to the same lesson. Don’t throw trash in your backpack. Clean out your locker once a week.

Take Notes

Taking notes is probably why I’ve passed several of my classes. It’s great if you have a good memory, but when you have so much you’re learning in a day, you can get easily confused. Don’t risk failing a test just because you don’t take notes. Technology has made it super easy! Take notes on your computer if your teacher allows computers in class. If you have an online assignment, copy and paste certain paragraphs into a private Google word document. Or, be old fashioned and grab a pen(cil) and paper and go to town.

Time Management

There are 24 hours in a day. *Hello Captain Obvious* Taking time out of our days to study and read our notes and textbooks is SO important. I like to schedule my day around school. I look at what upcoming exams/classes I have and plan accordingly. Since I’m home schooled I can take off a weekday, but I always make it up on the weekend. So if I have a dentist appointment on a Tuesday, I keep track of what school work I missed for the day and be sure to get it done on time.

Take Breaks

It’s perfectly okay to take breaks. I used to study until I was exhausted and my hands were cramping from taking so many notes. That isn’t even healthy and I noticed my grades were effected by overworking myself. Breaks are good for you and even your grades. I typically study for about 30 minutes and then give myself a 3-5 minute break before going back to my textbook. Whether that’s to get a glass of water, stretch, or to check a couple emails. Keep yourself accountable though. Don’t end up getting sucked into the Bermuda Triangle that is social media. Set a timer to keep your breaks at a decent time.

Ask Questions

There is no such thing as a stupid question. Teachers are there to answer our questions. If you’re too embarrassed to raise your hand in the middle of class, write down your question and ask your teacher after class ends. If it’s an online class, most teachers have an email they can be contacted at. So be sure to check with your school and email them with any questions you have. They’ll be happy to help.

Whether you’re in high school, college, or aren’t even in school, I hope you found this somewhat helpful. Feel free to share any further tips in the comments below!
